There are a lot of specifications that go into making an off-road vehicle. Over the past 80 years, the Jeep Wrangler has become synonymous with off-road capability, from the unparalleled Command-Trac four-wheel-drive system to the high-tech off-road pages. The reboot of the Ford Bronco has given the Wrangler tough competition in the 2021 model year. This makes it tough to make a decision between these two icons. Three main engines are available under the hood of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler, as well as the exclusive engines for the Rubicon 392 and 4xe. The standard engine is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 that kicks out a potent 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. You can also choose an optional 2.0L I-4 that provides 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The last optional engine is a 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel that delivers 260 horsepower and a hefty 442 lb-ft of torque. For those looking for some more speed, the Rubicon 392 is sure to please with a 6.4L V8 engine with 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Those looking for more fuel efficiency will be satisfied with the 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine mated to two electric motors. This setup provides drivers with 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Of course, all Wrangler’s come with one of three of Jeep’s legendary 4×4 systems. A six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 3.6L engine, while an 8-speed automatic is also available. The 8-speed automatic is standard with 2.0L turbo, V8, and plug-in hybrid.
While the 2021 Wrangler has five powerful engines, the Bronco only has two engines, neither of which are diesel or hybrid. The first engine is a 2.3L turbocharged I-4 cylinder engine that provides 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Also available is a 2.7L twin-turbo V6 that kicks out 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder engine can be mated to a 7-speed manual transmission. While the Wrangler has three available 4×4 systems to choose from, the Bronco only has 2.
Now that we’ve given you the engine rundown, it’s time to dive into the style and features. Some standard Jeep Wrangler features include 17-inch steel wheels, crank windows, removable doors, a fold-down windshield, fog lights, a five-inch touchscreen display, tow hooks, skid plates, and manual door locks. All Wrangler models come with the Sunrider removable soft top. The mid-range trims add features like alloy wheels, all-weather floor mats, automatic climate control, larger touchscreens, parking sensors, Alpine premium audio, and power windows and locks. The Rubicon trim gears more towards off-roading features like heavy-duty front and rear axles, rock rails, an electronic sway bar disconnect, and electronic locking front and rear differentials.
The Bronco also offers a fair amount of standard and available features. Some highlights of the standard features include daytime running lights, intermittent windshield wipers, tow hooks, removable doors, and flip-up rear glass. Some available options include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, eight cupholders, a powder-coated tube step, wireless charging, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The off-road segment brings some heavy hitters with the 2021 Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco.
