Powertrains for the 2022 Grand Cherokee
As mentioned above, there are now two different versions of the Grand Cherokee to choose from. There’s the new hybrid version, and the version that features the engines that have continued to power this SUV for the past few years. The standard engine is a Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, rated at 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and paired with a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. The second option, available to the upper trim levels, is a 5.7-liter V8 engine, which supplies the Grand Cherokee with 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The V8 also utilizes the 8-speed automatic transmission, and both engines include variable valve timing (VVT), as well as a cylinder deactivation system that will cut the power to certain cylinders within the engine whenever possible, automatically conserving energy. This feature has been carefully tuned to be undetectable to the driver, so you won’t even have to think about it!
What Powers the Grand Cherokee Hybrid?
Like we saw in the 2021 Wrangler 4xe, Jeep has incorporated innovative technology into the 2022 Grand Cherokee hybrid to create its fuel-efficient powertrain. Its engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, which is paired with two electric motors, and a 400-volt battery pack. The battery alone is capable of powering the Grand Cherokee for up to 25 miles, emission-free! The hybrid Grand Cherokee is just as strong as its counterpart, with an instant availability of torque, and a 6,000-pound maximum towing capacity. There’s even an available Jeep Level II charging cable that can fully recharge your Grand Cherokee’s battery in just two hours. You can easily track your battery levels using the LED indicators on the dashboard, and on the charging port itself. The hybrid powertrain has three different drive modes to choose from, Electric, eSave, and Hybrid, which prioritize either the battery, gas engine, or a combination of the two.
How Capable is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Just like the Grand Cherokee models that have come before it, the 2022 Grand Cherokee has an impressive display of power and capability, both on and off-road. With the V6 engine, you can achieve a maximum towing capacity of up to 6,200 pounds, which increases to 7,200 pounds with the V8. Also, this lineup features a re-vamped Trailhawk model, the Grand Cherokee’s signature Trail Rated trim level. The Trailhawk has tons of off-road features that make it the ideal choice for all your toughest adventures. It comes with standard 4-wheel drive, with all-terrain tires on its 18-inch wheels. It also features the Selec-Terrain Traction Management system with Hill-Descent Control to help you navigate all the different surfaces you’ll encounter on the trails. It also features the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension system which can provide a maximum ground clearance of 11.3 inches, as well as 24 inches of water fording. Plus, the Trailhawk has other functional features like an anti-glare hood decal, front tow hooks, and steel skid plates to protect its undercarriage.
What New Tech Can I Find on the 2022 Grand Cherokee?
Like many new Jeep vehicles, the 2022 Grand Cherokee welcomes the all-new Uconnect 5 infotainment system. This is the newest generation of Uconnect technology, and it comes equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Amazon Alexa connectivity. There’s also a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and offers multiple user profiles within the system so that whoever’s behind the wheel can quickly access their most-used apps, and other unique preferences including seating adjustments, and temperature control. You can access all of these functions and more through the 10.1-inch touchscreen. For the first time on a Grand Cherokee, upper trim levels will also feature the available Front Passenger Display, which is a secondary touchscreen on the passenger’s side of the dashboard. This system will feature Amazon Fire TV, as well as all the other apps for music, navigation, and more.
